The objective of this research will be to experiment with a new type of water based ink using the printmaking processes of intaglio, woodcut and monoprint.  Traditionally printmaking inks are oil based and are volatile to the artist’s health and the environment. These allergic reactions make art-making difficult and this research even more important.  The ink we would like to experiment with is called Akua Kolor and Akua Intaglio Ink. Akua Kolor is a water soluble fluid that is specifically created for monoprinting.  Akua Intaglio Ink is created from a soy base and dissolves with soap and water. Both products claim to be odorless and non-toxic.  Four students were selected to participate in this research project.  Each participant has been taught traditional techniques but is encouraged to experiment in alternative approaches. Our research and art work will be chronicled on this blog. Constructive comments are welcome.
